UroCare: Part of CardioCare Marbella

CardioCare Marbella is well-known as the Costa del Sol's leading cardiovascular centre, specialising in non-invasive and minimally-invasive endovascular procedures and interventions with internationally-trained doctors and state-of-the-art technology. But did you know that they also have a UroCare department that provides non-invasive and minimally-invasive treatments for male urology conditions such as benign prostate hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) and erectile dysfunction. Both are common conditions faced by men that are often ignored, leaving countless men suffering in silence unnecessarily. This Christmas, don't let that be you. UroCare Marbella can help diagnose and treat your erectile dysfunction with number of non-surgical and non-invasive tests and procedures to help give you back a healthier, happier sex life this Christmas and beyond.

Erectile Dysfunction Diagnosis and Treatment

Symptoms of erectile dysfunction vary in intensity from person to person based on your personal circumstances and underlying health, so you probably know better than anyone else if your sex drive is lower than usual or you're having reoccurring difficulty in getting or keeping an erection. Because everyone is different, it's up to you to bring up your ED concerns with your doctor so that proper diagnosis and treatment can take place.

Although some non-vascular factors may also come into play with the condition, erectile dysfunction is essentially a vascular problem similar to heart disease that causes heart attacks, only in this case, an excess build-up of plaque in a man's blood vessels restricts blood flow to his penis instead of his heart, causing organ failure which in turn lowers his sex drive and makes it difficult to get or maintain an erection. It can be caused by a number of similar issues to those with heart disease too, like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, low testosterone, smoking, lack of exercise, or genetic predisposition and importantly, is not caused by - or an indicator of, your masculinity or sexual prowess.

Like any vascular disease, erectile dysfunction is diagnosed through discussions with your doctor and confirmed with ultrasound testing and/or a CT scan. In the case of ED, a provocation test may also be prescribed, all of which are used to measure and monitor blood flow through your pelvic and penile arteries.

When it comes to treatment, an angiogram is used to both diagnose and treat erectile dysfunction by definitively measuring the level of blockage in the arteries. Similar to an x-ray for your blood vessels, it's a straightforward, simple and non-surgical procedure but one that is also extremely successful. By threading small catheters into the arteries through a needle puncture and inserting a special dye into the blood vessels themselves, a specialised camera is used to visibly see the level of blockage in your pelvic and penile arteries. If it's significant (more than 50%), a medicated-coated balloon insert will be immediately used to dilate the blood vessels and re-open them, immediately increasing blood flow and significantly improving the symptoms of erectile dysfunction. Success is immediately measured and confirmed by repeating the imaging process until your urologist is happy with the results and can assure you of a better sex life after a few days of recovery. Better still, an angiogram intervention requires no cut, will leave no scar, is completely non painful and is covered by most private insurance plans. In short, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by speaking with the expert urologists at UroCare about your suspected ED.

Give yourself (and your significant other) the best gift of all this Christmas – a happy, healthy, vigorous you! Get in touch with the expert urologists at UroCare Marbella to discuss your ED symptoms and concerns today and make this holiday season very merry and bright!
